Original abstract
Let F=ℚ₃ and let E/F be its unramified quadratic extension. We give an explicit checkable argument that the Langlands quotient with segments [4,6],[2,5],[3,3],[1,4],[0,2] is Galois invariant, is not an entire proper parabolic induction, and has no invariant linear form for any Hermitian stabilizer in GL₁₅(E). The analytic proof assembles the period bases and functional equations of Feigon–Lapid–Offen: two invertible nested-segment swaps expose five necessary opposite-lift conditions forming an odd cycle. Noninduction follows from the Lapid–Mínguez ladder-side matching criterion, with all fifteen partition obstructions displayed. The total multiplicity is zero rather than the two predicted by the historical k=1 multiplicity conjecture. Historical priority and overlap with Luo–Zha, DOI 10.1007/s11464-025-0256-0, remain UNKNOWN: their complete paper was unavailable for comparison. No firstness or worldwide novelty claim is made.
The idea in plain English
A representation can carry linear measurements that remain unchanged under a subgroup. This note presents a concrete representation for which every such unitary-group measurement vanishes, even though the representation is unchanged by the field’s Galois symmetry.
The example is specified by five integer intervals. It is the unique irreducible quotient of a standard induced representation. The separate noninduction assertion says that this quotient cannot itself be the entire representation obtained by induction from a proper parabolic subgroup.
The argument uses established period bases and functional equations to force five incompatible binary choices around an odd cycle. An established matching criterion, applied to every partition of the five intervals, excludes all entire proper induced realizations.
The result is an attributed instance of classical representation-theoretic tools. Its exact overlap with Luo–Zha’s earlier announced work remains unknown, and no first-discovery claim is made.
The precise result
Take F=ℚ₃ and its unramified quadratic extension E/F. Work with smooth admissible complex representations. For a≤b, D_K[a,b]=St_(b−a+1)(K)|det|_K^((a+b)/2), using the irreducible-quotient segment convention. Let π be the Langlands quotient of D_E[4,6]×D_E[2,5]×D_E[3,3]×D_E[1,4]×D_E[0,2].
Theorem 1 states that π∈Irr(GL₁₅(E)), π^τ≅π, π is not itself an entire normalized induction from any proper parabolic subgroup, and Hom_(U(V))(π,ℂ)=0 for every nonsingular 15-dimensional Hermitian space V over E/F.
There are two Hermitian isometry classes in this setting. The paper’s total multiplicity is zero rather than two in the historical OWR Conjecture 4 at k=1. The same example is presented as a counterexample to FLO Conjecture 6.12 and the historical unrestricted local unitary converse; established generic and unitarizable positive classes are kept distinct.
Why the result holds
For each fixed Hermitian orbit, the FLO no-earlier-relation hypothesis supplies a complete holomorphic basis of periods on each of three induced orders. Two strict-containment swaps are actual isomorphisms with nonzero diagonal coefficients in these bases.
The correctly oriented reverse-intertwiner functional equation and classical segment L-factors force opposite lift labels at five linked adjacencies. Entire independent open-orbit restrictions justify specialization even when unrestricted periods in a linked-swapped order need not be holomorphic. The resulting odd cycle has no consistent binary labels.
Only containment of proper rank-one images in the quotient kernel is used. No general equality generating that kernel is assumed. Langlands classification and the additive constituent property reduce any entire induced realization to a partition of the five segment occurrences. Each partition has a ladder side and an explicit directed matching obstruction under the Lapid–Mínguez criterion.
Scope and limitations
The stated example uses the specific characteristic-zero p-adic field F=ℚ₃, its unramified quadratic extension, and smooth complex coefficients. It is not an assertion for all fields or coefficient categories.
Unitary periods refer to stabilizers of Hermitian forms. They do not assume π is unitarizable. Unramified character-line data do not assert that π is spherical. The quotient remains a quotient of parabolic induction; only an entire proper induction is excluded.
The written proof uses deep classical FLO, JPSS and Lapid–Mínguez results as explicitly cited dependencies. Finite scalar and graph diagnostics do not compute Hom spaces or prove those source theorems.
Complete periods for a fixed Hermitian orbit, normalized versus unnormalized operators, the extra quadratic-character twist, and the same-parameter ring involution are essential conventions. No separate kernel-generation disproof is claimed.
Historical priority and all substantive overlap with Luo–Zha, DOI 10.1007/s11464-025-0256-0, remain UNKNOWN. Their publisher abstract and dated workshop announcement establish a prior kernel-generation counterexample claim, but not the exact segments, proof mechanism or period consequences. The present construction may overlap, be contained in, or be superseded by that work.
No exhaustive literature absence, independent first discovery or current worldwide-open assertion is made. This is an unrefereed preprint prepared with extensive AI assistance, without external human or journal peer review or formal proof-assistant certification.
